One of the few ‘going out’ foods I afford myself is sushi. The other half’s claim to fame is sushitoronto.ca (shameless plug), and he & his business partner stumbled upon this recently opened restaurant. He had told me it was good….but his interpretation of ‘good’ is way different than mine. Usually.
This place truly is WOW!
It’s not a big space so if you are walking down Charles Street trying to find it, hug the south side of the street and keep your eyes peeled. Luckily there is a big sign out front too (for now):

Inside, the place is small-so keep that in mind if you want to come with a big group or at a “popular” dinner time or “popular” dinner day. However, also note that they DO have a takeout menu!

So the space is neat and tidy….but let’s get to the reason we were there. The food!! I ordered the Sashimi Dinner and the other half had the Sushi Dinner:

Okay….I have seen that before, but there were some different types of fish on the plate (some items were seared, some fish I didn’t recognize).
But let’s take a look at MINE:

Do you SEE this? My sashimi on a bed of twigs with blades of grass and a dandelion! A FLOWER people. I didn’t even want to eat this because it is so pretty!! But I did of course…after a brief explanation of everything on my plate by the chef. That’s right-he told me what was on my plate and if it was seared or cooked and why it was prepared that way!
HOLY MOLY IT WAS SO GOOD. I don’t think I have had sushi as good as this -with the exception of when I was in Japan. Speaking of that, these are Japanese people-the chefs, the staff. Maybe that had something to do with it…but it was delicious! We were even given organic salmon sushi….what a difference!
It didn’t stop there-check out “dessert”
Black Sesame Seed Ice Cream with Fig Tempura
Upon hearing what this was, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I will say that it’s not too sweet. The fig balances the ice cream perfectly. It was awesome!
This meal was great from start to finish. The staff were attentive and friendly-our tea cups were kept full and so were our stomachs! I will definitely be back-it’s the best sushi I have had in Toronto!
